Come check out the rebirth of college wrestling in Duluth!
University of Minnesota Duluth finally has a wrestling program again! Sixteen years ago the UMD wrestling program was abolished and I am very happy to announce that wrestling is back in Duluth!
The UMD wrestling club had two meets over the weekend, one Friday night at the field house on campus and another the following day at the same location. I was able to go and check out one of the two meets and I have to say I was very impressed with what I saw. The wrestlers looked great! They won all their matches by pin. Under the coaching of Dom Vasquez and John Alutman, the teams looked completely prepared and ready to go.

We have scheduled our next night of Exhibition/Smoker fights for Saturday December 17, 2011.
If you have any fighters that would like to participate, please send me their name, weight, experience level and rule style.
Once again this event is intended to be a learning opportunity for beginner level fighters. Fights will not be scored, but are designed to give a fighter experience doing 3 rounds consecutively against a fighter they have never worked with before, in front of a crowd, and while making adjustments in the corner. More information about the event is below. We hope to see you there.

Weigh Ins: 5:30-6:00pm. Please do not have fighters cut weight for this event!
Fights Start: 7:00pm, spectators are encouraged to attend ($10 at the door)

Rules:
- All bouts will be 3x2:00 rounds with 1:00 break
- All fighters must wear headgear, mouth piece, cup/supporter, shin pads, 16oz or 18oz training gloves, and foot pads (FCR Rules only)
- Fighters will be matched based on weight, experience level, and rule style.
- The event is designed to prepare beginner fighters for their first amateur bout, but if we have more experienced fighters register, we will do the best we can to find them equal level competition.
- Fights will not be scored and action will be slowed or halted if a fighter is receiving too many blows.
- FCR: All kicks must be above the waist, no clinching or holding, all boxing style punches.
- LOW KICK: Kicks above the waist and to the thigh, no clinching or holding, all boxing style punches.
- MUAY THAI: Kicks above the waist and to the thigh. Clinching, clinch throws (no hip tosses), and catching kicks is permitted. All boxing style punches are allowed, along with knees and elbows to the body (no knees or elbows to the head).

Everyone make sure to come out and support Jake Wymann for his fight on November 26th at the Hyatt in downtown Minneapolis. Jake will be fighting Corwin Nicholas and I can guarantee their will be firework!

Tom Schmitz is one of the best BJJ instructors and competitors in the Midwest. With 46 wins and only 3 losses including a victory over UFC veteran Hermes Franca. He has fought in mixed martial arts competition with an amazing a record of 7-3 against opponents including UFC champion Matt Hughes and holding a victory over Dave Strasser. Tom has spent thousands of hours on the mat honing both his Jiu-jitsu and teaching techniques and is a master of both. Tom has also trained in Thai boxing for over 15 years under Greg Nelson- a full instructor in the Thai boxing association of the USA. He has also competed in the art of Thai boxing and has a 3-0 record. With Tom as your instructor you are in safe hands.

Thai Boxing Smoker Fights at the Cellar
The Cellar Gym and Ring Rivals are hosting another night of exhibition
Muay Thai and Kickboxing matches on Saturday October 9th.
The event takes place at The Cellar Gym in Minneapolis (2715 4th St
SE) and participation is free.
Weigh-Ins: 5:30-6:00pm | Fights Start: 7:00pm
Please do not cut weight for this event, these are practice matches.
Rule Styles Include:
Muay Thai - All boxing style punches, kicks allowed above the waist
and to the legs, elbows and knees allowed to the body only. Clinching
is permitted.
Low Kick - All boxing style punches + kicks above the waist and to the
legs. No elbows, No knees, no clinching/holding. This style is recommended
for amateur MMA fighters.
Kickboxing - All boxing style punches + kicks above the waist.
These exhibition (smoker) matches are designed to help beginner fighters
get valuable ring experience in a controlled environment. Ideal participants
are beginner fighters preparing to have their first amateur fight, but
we will also help find matches for more experienced fighters including
MMA fighters wishing to polish their striking skills.
All matches will be 3 rounds of 2:00min.
Participants must supply their own gear including 16oz or 18oz training
gloves and headgear (we have some gear available if you need to borrow
equipment).

Starting Tuesday Dec 1st, 2009 Twin Ports Mixed Martial Arts members
will be able to use the new state of the art training center. Located
in the Morgan Park area of Duluth MN, this new training and fitness
center has it all. Over 1700 square feet of brand new mats, over a dozen
new heavy bags, a pro shop that is offering everything a MMA athlete
would need to train harder and better. Also the new training center
has a lounge with multiple LCD TVs, a dinning area, convenient parking,
extended hours of operation and much, much more.
Come down and check out the new training and fitness center Monday-Friday 3:30-9:30 and Saturdays 10-5PM.

Twin Ports Mixed Martial Arts Updates
Hello fans, members and supporters, I thought it would be a good idea to let everyone know what has been happening this last summer with Twin Ports MMA.
1.Gym Expansion
We are working very hard and expanding twin ports MMA to a larger training
center with longer hours during the day. We have a few possible locations
and we are moving along with the process. Of course it isn't easy but
we have had many people along the way helping and supporting us through.
The new gym will have a full size training cage, competition boxing
ring, over 1700 square feet of mat space, over 12 bag stations, mens
and womens bathrooms with showers and cardio and weight training equipment.
We are looking toward Sept-Oct for the new gym to be up and running.
Not only will we have a new falictiy but we will be open 6 days a week
all day long!.
2.Fights coming up
This week end Twin Ports MMA will be in Wisconson Dells for an MMA event.
Fighting out of the gym will be Brain Learn, Jimmy Nelson, Kevin Jarvis
and Matt Thompson. With then Luck!
Also Sept 12th at the westman arena in Superior, WI Fearless Fighting
Championships. Jason Zimmer and Dave “HighLander” Pawielski
with be fighting. Please come out and support these fearless warriors.
3.Twin Ports MMA supports Chasers Bar and Grill
For the last few months Chasers Bar and Grill located in Proctor MN
has been more than expecting of the members and supporters of Twin Ports
MMA. Chasers is the #1 location to be at when looking for UFC showings.
We will be their again Aug 29th for UFC 102. See you their!
4.Looking for new members
Twin Ports MMA is constantly searching for people that are looking to
broaden their marital arts training, increase their personal health
and have a ton of fun doing it. If you or someone you know is intereseted
in training at Twin Ports MMA please tell them to them to stop by and
try a free lesson.

Are new women’s kick boxing classes are a great way to lose weight
and have a great time doing it. The cardio workout is a fun and exciting
way to help drop a few extra pounds, increase carido health and learn
a couple of fun things about kickboxing in the processes.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the ideal method of self-defense for kids since
it emphasizes leverage and technique over strength and power. This focus
